Welcome to 2016! We are approaching the end of the 2nd quarter and getting ready to move into the 2nd half of this school year. I hope that everyone had a nice winter break and that quality time was spent with your family. Before the break many classes had taken part in projects in the classroom to support others beyond Meriwether. This ranges anywhere from making cards for the police/fire department, blankets for nursing home/shelters, taking food to fire stations, SPCA, among many others. Dr. Irani and I also stepped away from our day to day duties and did something to help give back to our school. Mrs. Tichner in the cafeteria was short staffed and we jumped in to help out. The kids absolutely loved having the 2 of us serving them in the lunch line. I have to admit that it was great to see how shocked they were when the walked in and we asked if they wanted turkey or trout treasures! This is just one example of how we try to care about others, especially our school family!
Our teachers have been doing many things this year to focus on empathy and teach students about what it means to empathize with others. I think it is also good that we as adults (educators, parents, community members, etc.) take the time to think about others, as well. It is important to appreciate the little things as they are so important in the whole scheme.
As always, thank you for sending your children to us each day. Seeing them all puts a smile on my face every day. One of the many joys of my job.
Warmest regards,
Mrs. Robertson
